The MINI F56 uses an integral front differential housed within the gearbox casing. Standard Cooper and Cooper S models come with an open differential, while the John Cooper Works F56 is equipped with a Torsen Type A limited-slip differential — a mechanical LSD that improves traction out of corners by biasing torque to the wheel with more grip.
Differential failure is uncommon but can occur from worn bearings (usually audible as a whine that varies with speed), seal failure causing oil loss, or physical damage. The Torsen LSD in JCW models can also wear internally over time, losing its limited-slip effect. All differentials in our stock are disassembled, bearings replaced where necessary, and resealed before sale.
