The B48A20 is the 2.0-litre four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine powering the MINI F56 Cooper S and JCW from 2014 onwards. Part of BMW's modular B-series engine family, the B48 combines a twin-scroll turbocharger, direct high-precision fuel injection (HPI), VANOS variable valve timing, and Valvetronic variable valve lift — delivering strong performance with excellent real-world fuel efficiency.

The B48 is broadly regarded as one of the best modern small-displacement performance engines. It produces 192 hp in standard Cooper S form and up to 231 hp in the JCW variant. Its power delivery is linear and tractable, making it equally at home in city traffic and on a mountain road. Units are sourced from low-mileage European vehicles and undergo full compression and leakdown testing before sale.
