The B38B15 is the turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder used in the base MINI F60 Cooper Countryman. Despite its small displacement, the B38 delivers 136 hp with strong low-end torque thanks to its twin-scroll turbocharger and direct injection — making it a surprisingly capable engine for an SUV of this size.

The B38 is part of BMW's modular engine family and shares architecture with the B48, making it a highly refined unit. It features Valvetronic variable valve lift and VANOS on both camshafts. The three-cylinder layout uses a balance shaft to smooth out the inherent vibration of the configuration.
