The B48 and B46 engines in the F60 Countryman use a single-row timing chain with a hydraulic tensioner. While significantly more reliable than the older N14 in the R56, the B-series engines are still recommended for a preventive timing chain inspection at 100,000+ km, particularly if there has been any history of low oil level or extended oil change intervals.
Symptoms of a worn timing chain on the F60 include a brief rattle on cold start (first 2–3 seconds), subtle timing-related fault codes (P0011, P0016), or rough idle after prolonged highway running. Catching this early prevents the more serious consequence of a chain skipping a tooth and bending valves.
The kit includes the updated tensioner specification, new chain, and both guides — everything needed for a complete replacement in one order.
