The R60 cylinder head is a 16-valve aluminium DOHC unit shared across the N16 and N18 engine families. Both engines use essentially the same head casting, with differences in the camshaft profiles and VANOS actuators between the naturally aspirated and turbocharged variants.
Common reasons to replace an R60 cylinder head include head gasket failure (typically caused by overheating), bent valves from timing chain jump, or cam bearing wear at high mileage. Replacing with a tested used unit is significantly more cost-effective than machining a cracked head.
Each cylinder head we offer is pressure tested to confirm no porosity cracks or combustion leaks, inspected for valve seal condition, and verified for camshaft bearing surface wear. Warped heads are rejected — we do not re-machine and re-sell.
