The N18B16 is the turbocharged 1.6-litre engine used in the MINI R60 Cooper S and JCW Countryman. It is an evolution of the earlier N14 unit found in the R56, with revised variable valve timing on both camshafts (Twin-VANOS), a new oil pump, and updated timing chain tensioner to address the well-documented N14 timing issues.
The N18 in the R60 produces 184 hp in Cooper S trim and up to 211 hp in the JCW version with sport tuning. In ALL4 models, the engine drives both axles via the Haldex transfer case mounted on the gearbox.
All N18 engines we offer are run-tested for compression, oil pressure, coolant leaks, and cam timing before being removed. We do not sell engines from cars with known head gasket failure or stretched timing chains — each unit is individually assessed.
The N18 is a direct replacement for earlier N14-equipped R56/R55 vehicles, making it a popular upgrade for owners of those models looking to resolve N14 reliability issues.
