About This Part
The MINI R60 automatic transmission is the Aisin AWF21 6-speed torque converter automatic — a reliable and widely-used unit in various BMW Group applications. It is available in both FWD and ALL4 AWD configurations, with the ALL4 variant driving the Haldex transfer case from the gearbox output.
The AWF21 is generally a long-lived unit when properly maintained, but can develop solenoid issues causing harsh shifts, torque converter shudder at highway speeds, and valve body sticking on high-mileage examples. Fluid condition is critical — units running on degraded fluid develop clutch pack wear rapidly.
Before sale, each unit is test-driven through all drive ranges (P, R, N, D, and manual mode), the fluid is drained and assessed, and the unit is scanned for fault codes. We replace fluid as standard on every unit.
