The MINI R60 Cooper S and JCW use the Garrett K03 (or equivalent KP35) turbocharger on the N18B16 engine. It is a small, fast-spooling unit that produces up to approximately 14 psi of boost in factory tune, with headroom for mild stage tuning.
Common failure modes for the K03 include shaft bearing wear (indicated by excessive shaft play or oil burning/blue smoke), wastegate actuator failure (boost creep or underboost codes), and compressor wheel damage from debris ingestion. In many cases, the centre section fails while the compressor and turbine housings remain serviceable.
Every turbocharger we sell is checked for shaft play (axial and radial), inspected for compressor and turbine wheel condition, and confirmed free of seal failure before listing. We do not sell turbos from cars with confirmed oil starvation history.
