MINI shock absorbers are supplied by Bilstein or Sachs at factory level, depending on the model and specification. The R56 Cooper S uses Sachs dampers as standard with Bilstein supplied on sport suspension and JCW specifications. The F56 follows a similar pattern with revised damper rates to suit the heavier platform.
Shock absorbers are one of the most safety-critical suspension components — worn dampers reduce tyre contact under cornering and braking, increase stopping distances, and cause excessive body roll. Symptoms of worn dampers include bouncing over bumps, nose-dive under braking, and squealing tyres in corners.
Each damper is bench-tested for consistent rebound resistance, inspected for oil leaks at the shaft seal, and the bump stop and dust boot condition is checked. We do not sell leaking or metal-on-metal dampers.
