The MINI steering system uses a rack-and-pinion arrangement with inner and outer tie rod ends connecting the steering rack to the front wheel knuckles. The inner tie rod threads into the steering rack end, while the outer tie rod screws onto the inner rod and terminates in a ball joint at the wheel hub.
Worn tie rod ends cause steering play, uneven tyre wear (feathering or inner edge wear), and vehicle pulling to one side. The inner tie rod is less visible and often overlooked — a loose inner rod produces steering vagueness at highway speed and a clunking noise when turning the wheel.
We supply tie rods as complete sets (inner + outer, both sides) or individually. Each joint is checked for play, correct thread engagement, and ball joint boot condition. After replacement, a wheel alignment is always recommended.
