About This Transmission

The MINI R60 Countryman's automatic transmission is the Aisin AWF21 6-speed automatic — the same unit used in the R56 Cooper S automatic and a range of BMW/MINI products. It is a well-proven unit with a conventional torque converter and hydraulic valve body.

On ALL4 AWD-equipped R60 models, the gearbox is connected to a Haldex-based transfer case that distributes torque to the rear axle via an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch. We supply the transfer case with the gearbox on ALL4 units — the two are calibrated together and should not be mixed between vehicles.

The Aisin AWF21's most common failure mode in Lebanon is ATF overheating from sustained low-speed traffic with a worn transmission fluid cooler. We check the external cooler connections and fluid condition on every unit before listing.
